My column "India, America and net Neutrality" in the Indian Express - 25th December 2017.

India's stand on is laudable, Finally it will be a balancing act from the govt-Viable business for ISPs and ensuring superlative user experience

1) US repealing has split the internet ecosystem between the end users + Content providers ( read Face book, Amazon etc) and he ISPs ( Airtel, BSNL etc)
2)  China is known to be very strict on internet regulations, This means India can be a flag bearer for true net neutrality.
3 )India's TRAI has come with NN regulations recently. Implementation/Monitoring will be the key.
4) India's Internet speeds have a long way to go with our internet speeds just one tenth of the some of the countries.

Big worry: unemployment and underemployment

This article I had written about the biggest challenge faced by the country , appeared in the Deccan Herald

1 in 4 unemployed or underemployed. We should start measuring Labour under utilization rate or LUR

We need to focus on manufacturing, wage code bill is expected to help in the longer term and automation will help as well.

Will the Telecom war help you?

This article "Will the Telecom war help you?" appeared in the Indian Express on 18th Sep 2017.

The article looks at two major issues faced by the sector. - Call drops and IUC or Interconnect Usage charges.

1) TRAI's mycall App must be popularized
2) Stricter norms for reducing call drops is correct
3) IUC must be reduced, but gradually over 18-24 months
4) The Telcos must start focussing on quality of service instead of the price war

Lessons to learn from IT industry's current turmoil

This article I wrote appeared in the Deccan Herald on 11th July 2017.  The article talks about the challenges faced by the IT Industry  and what could be the key learning.

1) The negative news flow about the IT industry continues , yet IT industry jobs are the most sought after.

2) Re-skilling in IT Industry is needed and we have gone through re-skilling in the past during the pre/post Y2K era.

3)  A downturn looms large and every 8th year since 2000, we have seen some form of down-turn, but the Industry has demonstrated resolve to grow post the event.

4) Engineering colleges mushroomed by piggy-backing on IT. Only 3% of the graduate Engineers are employable in IT Industry. Intake into Engineering colleges must be tightened, colleges must reskill teachers

5) We need alternate Industry to pick-up for mass employment generation. Also focus on entrepreneurship will be the key

Indian Railways: Only rapid tech adoption can solve safety, speed challenges

This article I wrote appeared in the Financial Express on 28th Feb 2017.
The article argues that technology should be the core for improving Indian Railways.  Formation of Rashtriya Rail Sanraksha Kosh is good. But technology adoption will be the key. We also need to learn from the EU especially on safety measure.
